In order to protect our work, Local 17 needs members certified in stainless and innershield welding. With spring and summer approaching many scheduled Cleveland area projects will start breaking ground. If you do not have your welding certifications please take the time now in acquiring these certs. Remember protecting our work is protecting your paycheck. If you are interested in welding instruction or recertification, please contact the Training Center Office to schedule an appointment. All Training and Testing is done free of charge. With the exception of: A re-testing fee of $60.00 PER POSITION will be charged for all RE-tests due to lack of work record.
ATTENTION STATE CERTIFIED & INTERNATIONAL REGISTERED WELDERS: As a reminder to those members with State Welding Certification and registered with the International Welding Certification Program, it is your responsibility to keep your State Certification & International work recorded current. Welder employment records should be completed on the appropriate form, which includes the project name or number, the Contractor name, start and finish dates for the project on which you welded, supervisors name and their signature, along with a contact phone number. These forms must be submitted to ODOT and the International every six (6) months. If you are unsure on how to fill out these forms or you need additional forms, please contact the apprenticeship for assistance. Forms are available at the union hall or you can google “ODOT WELDERS UPDATE” and print out a form from your computer.
With regards to the STRUCTURAL WELDING CERTIFICATION, please remember you are responsible personally to keep continuity records for this certification. The structural welding certification that comes with your bridge papers do not expire, provided that you can show welding employment records for every six month period from the time you took your weld test. You are expected to be able to furnish these work records to employers upon request. It has come to our attention that more and more frequently these records are being requested by employers. Secure your work, please keep adequate records.

HEART AND VASCULAR SCREENINGS
To All IRONWORKERS UNION LOCAL 17 Active Members: You have the incredible opportunity to participate in life saving heart and vascular screenings, right at the Union Hall. Similar tests would cost more than $2,000 in a hospital! All of the tests will be offered FREE to ACTIVE MEMBERS over the age of 40.
Today’s biggest and most feared killer, Cardiovascular Disease, is more often undiscovered until it is too late. Heart disease kills more men and women in the U.S. each year than the 2nd through 5th killers combined, including all cancers. Perhaps most frightening is, despite major advances in the treatment of coronary heart disease and stroke, a large number of individuals who were apparently "healthy" died suddenly without prior symptoms. Do not let yourself become a statistic:
Over 50% of stroke and heart attack victims experience no warning signs
An estimated 10 to 12 million Americans are unaware of blockages in their leg arteries
1 of every 2.6 deaths in America is because of heart disease
Nearly 50% of all heart attacks occur in people under age 65
Heart disease is present in 40% of people ages 45 to 54
The following tests will be conducted: *The testing requires you to avoid eating within 4 hours prior to your screening (unless you are diabetic or need to eat, then please eat a light meal avoiding greasy foods)
Echocardiogram of the heart screening for Left Ventricle Dysfunction
Carotid Artery ultrasound/Intima-Media Thickness screening for plaque build-up and blood flow
Abdominal Aorta ultrasound screening for Aneurysm
Ankle Brachial Index screening for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
Blood Pressure Screening
Healthy Life will also be testing cholesterol, HDL, glucose and body composition(BMI)
These cardiovascular tests are ultrasound-based, involving no radiation, no pain, no needles, and can all be done in less than 30 minutes. These tests are FREE to IRONWORKERS UNION LOCAL 17 ACTIVE MEMBERS over the age of 40 as Ironworkers Union Local 17 is contributing 100% of the $200 cost.
