HEART AND VASCULAR SCREENINGS

TO ALL IRON WORKERS LOCAL NO. 17 ACTIVE MEMBERS AND SPOUSES OVER THE AGE OF 40:

Due to an overwhelming response this past Fall, Local 17 has partnered with Healthy Life Screening again to offer the incredible opportunity to participate in life saving heart and vascular screenings right here at the Union Hall. Please note this opportunity is extended to all spouses over 40 of active members. Similar tests would cost more than $2,000 in a hospital! IRONWORKERS UNION LOCAL 17 will have no access to the results, they are sent directly to your home to share with your physician at your discretion. All of the tests will be offered FREE to ACTIVE MEMBERS and spouses over the age of 40.

Today’s biggest and most feared killer, Cardiovascular Disease, is more often undiscovered until it is too late. Heart disease kills more men and women in the U.S. each year than the 2nd through 5th killers combined, including all cancers. Perhaps most frightening is, despite major advances in the treatment of coronary heart disease and stroke, a large number of individuals who were apparently "healthy" died suddenly without prior symptoms. Do not let yourself become a statistic:

  • Over 50% of stroke and heart attack victims experience no warning signs
  • An estimated 10 to 12 million Americans are unaware of blockages in their leg arteries
  • 1 of every 2.6 deaths in America is because of heart disease
  • Nearly 50% of all heart attacks occur in people under age 65
  • Heart disease is present in 40% of people ages 45 to 54

The following tests will be conducted: *The testing requires you to avoid eating within 4 hours prior to your screening (unless you are diabetic or need to eat, then please eat a light meal avoiding greasy foods)

  • Echocardiogram of the heart screening for Left Ventricle Dysfunction
  • Carotid Artery ultrasound/Intima-Media Thickness screening for plaque build-up and blood flow
  • Abdominal Aorta ultrasound screening for Aneurysm
  • Ankle Brachial Index screening for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
  • Blood Pressure Screening

These cardiovascular tests are ultrasound-based, involving no radiation, no pain, no needles, and can all be done in less than 30 minutes. These tests are FREE to IRONWORKERS UNION LOCAL 17 ACTIVE MEMBERS and SPOUSES over the age of 40 as Ironworkers Union Local 17 is contributing 100% of the $175 cost.
